What makes you special? What is it that you can do for a company that will help them increase sales or improve production and save money. Answering these questions is the key to writing a resume that will lead to more freelance work and make you successful as you branch out on your own.

We have all seen the resumes that simply list education and work experience. There is nothing special about the document which will impress the person reading it. Do you really think they care where you attended college or where you were last employed? They want to know what you learned in school and how the past jobs you have had are going to help them.
A great resource for freelance professionals who are looking to build their contacts is megaptera-oi.org. It recommends that people who are looking for work, build their resume around what they have accomplished for other companies not just where they have worked in the past. An example of the difference would be to write on your resume, “Increased sales at XYZ company 30%” instead of just listing XYZ Company under work experience.
The people who do the hiring for companies are going to be more impressed when they read what you have done instead of where you have done it. They really are not interested in your past and are more focused on their own future and how you can help their company. A good resume will include specific ways that you can help the firm that you are asking to employ you. A generic resume just doesn’t work any more.
